What place, or what priority should be given to Politics by the Church? How interested-invested should the church be in political goings-on? Should the church debate, educate, picket? What do you think?
The purpose of the church is to equip the saints with the Gospel, which in turn produces good works in the lives of the saints. These good works will permeate society just as it did at the begining. We are to preach Christ, not preserve culture. We are to find our confidence in His salvation, not our political party. The Church’s affiliation is the Godhead, not the GOP.
All of that having been said, we are given a serious task of stewardship which demands all our assetts, not just our money. The invitation we have as Americans into our nation’s government should be considered a great assett. We have the opportunity to influence our nation from the top down. Why not let your voice be heard? Why not call a senator, vote, or even run for office if you’re qualified and available?
But, should the Church be involved? No. When the Church functions in this way it ceases to be the Church as it has forsaken it’s purpose. The Church should educate the saints in how to make Gospel-centered decisions in every arena of life. But, by all means, do not lower the Church to the satus of some special interest group.
